NYATN opposes MSNBC’s program, Slave Hunter: Freeing Victims of Human Trafficking

NYATN signed on, with 23 anti-trafficking organizations including the Freedom Network (USA), to member Sex Workers Project’s letter opposing MSNBC’s program, Slave Hunter: Freeing Victims of Human Trafficking.  It states, in part: “While we respect your efforts to tackle a difficult and necessary subject, the tactics of Mr. Cohen and ‘Abolish Slavery’ mislead the public and threaten the rights and safety of sex workers and survivors of human trafficking.”  Read more….

Film Review: Not My Life, by Florrie Burke

Florrie Burke has reviewed Not My Life, a documentary on human trafficking, for the Rights Work Initiative, a project of the Program on Human Trafficking and Forced Labor at the American University Washington College of Law’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.  An excerpt from the review:

Not My Life is not a perfect film by any means….  However, it is one of the better films available on the subject and should be commended for its lack of sexsationalism. “

On National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, January 11, 2011, from 6 to 8 pm at 123 William St., 16th Fl. at the Urban Justice Center, NYATN hosted a panel discussion in honor of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
